About
Paper is the starting point for her artistic creations. The simplicity and accessibility of paper made it the perfect carrier for delicate feelings and artistic expressions. Inspired by a multicultural living experience in China and Canada, Jenny first started working with drawing and cutting on paper when she was little, then continued to explore the medium during her studies at OCAD to discuss self-identity and the contemporary manifestation of traditional art.
Alongside her experimental paper-cutting, Jenny expand her practice on paper with mineral pigments. Inspired by the traditional techniques from Dunhuang Grottoes and Nihonga, Jenny further explores the qualities of paper and mineral pigment to draw new connections between human and earth. By utilizing materials like soil, mineral pigment and metal leaf, Jenny connects her work with nature and her local environment, to further discuss the meaning of materials and our relationships with them.
Featuring the aesthetics of both Canadian and East Asian art, Jenny's work encouraged a conversation between the past and the present, the East and the West, and the imagination and reality.
